Welcome to our E-course

Welcome to the blog of our on-line course. Here you will find out how the notion of discourse can help us, English teachers, facilitate our students' learning process.

Our course will be divided in five modules:

  • The first module is an introductory unit, in which you will get acquainted with the concept of discourse and with some of the traditions of Discourse Analysis. Especial attention will be given to Pragmatics.

  • The second module will consist of an overview of how the teaching of Grammar can be dealt with in a discursive perspective.

  • In the third module you will see the way Vocabulary can be approached from a discursive point of view.

  • The fourth module will be devoted to the concept of Genre and its relevance to FLT.
In our last module, we will consider issues related to Pragmatics and reflect upon the ways our learners can acquire pragmatic competence and other issues related to Cross-cultural Pragmatics.
Our course counts on a number of tools:
  • E-group - We have an e-group which will be used to exchange information on your assignments, deadlines, assessment and on the organization of course as a whole. The e-group will also host the articles you'll read and the slide presentations we'll watch. Our e-group can be assessed on http://groups.google.com.br/group/discourse-flt82

  • Discussion Forum - Our forum will be used to settle down your doubts on the topics studied. This is the place for discussions on the theory under investigation and its applicability in the foreign language classroom. But we’ll have separate forums for each of the topic we deal with. Here is where to discuss each topic:
